  Email domain requirement: New policy
Posted by: Vanya - 05-11-2024, 01:29 AM - Forum: Announcements - No Replies

April 7th, 2011

We've been seeing use of sketchy email services with certain accounts.  There's no reason anyone should be using "throw away" addresses.  If you're concerned about privacy, register an email account to use for your online accounts.  We will be requiring a mainstream, US based or a .edu domain.  This is an important step in order to mitigate trolling and agenda pushing without requiring an approval process for new accounts.

Uniform dress code an expectations off the field
Posted by: Vanya - 05-11-2024, 01:13 AM - Forum: Reenacting - Replies (1)

May 19th, 2010

This policy applies to wearing the uniform off of the field.  I will be posting it to the official website.

You should be wearing your uniform with pride and you should not be ashamed of wearing it.  Any time that you're going to or from an event, you should be wearing your uniform.  There's no reason why you should be hiding it or be ashamed of it.  If you hate your uniform so much that you feel the need to hide it under a civilian trench coat, you're in the wrong hobby and we don't want you.  I also have to question why you bother with the impression in the first place.

You should not be wearing your uniform in public without cause.  If you want to walk around the house in full impression because you spent a lot of money on it and want to get use out of it, that's fine, but keep it inside unless you have a reason to go out.  Don't walk around in full kit for no reason.  It makes us all look like jackasses.

Using your uniform for any stolen valor benefit is forbidden and you will be booted from the unit if we find out about it.  If an employee gives you a discount just because you were in uniform, you are required to get it reversed and notify the manager so they can retrain the employee.  Don't worry about whether or not they'll be in trouble, they're the one who is giving out stolen valor discounts.  If it gets back to us that you accepted an unearned military discount, we're going to have a conversation and probably boot you.  Tanya and I have both worked in retail.  Don't feel bad even if they have to void and rescan your entire transaction.

If you were in the military and would have qualified for a discount anyway, but weren't asked for ID, you need to notify the manager but you can show them your ID and let them know the discount was valid anyway.

If you weren't in the military, you are not allowed to accept a discount or any other benefit, period.

When you go out in public, your uniform needs to be as presentable as possible, with accommodations made if it got dirty while reenacting.

If we go somewhere before or after an event, you need to be in proper uniform.

We are no longer allowing minors in our group
Posted by: Vanya - 05-11-2024, 12:08 AM - Forum: Reenacting - Replies (3)

May 8th, 2012

Everyone has to be 18 now in order to participate.  We used to allow minors to reenact without access to weapons.  Tanya has been with us since she was 15 but we're not comfortable with that anymore.  This isn't a gender/sexual issue either.  It's not worth the liability of someone being unsafe.

  Enable edit history for posts
Posted by: Vasily_1942 - 05-10-2024, 11:17 PM - Forum: Discussions about the forum - Replies (3)

We should have the ability to save and view the edit history of posts.  We'll be able to have access to useful posts even if the user deletes it and moderators will be able to see what was said if a user writes something offensive and then changes it.

Suggestions for starting a social network

Does anyone have any suggestions for free software to use to set up a social network?  I want to make a site that's similar in functionality to Facebook.

  Comments about women
Posted by: Vanya - 05-05-2024, 02:26 PM - Forum: Rules - No Replies

March 18th, 2012

I'm not talking about posts stating that women are hot or that Tanya has huge tits.  We can all see it, it's why I dated her.

What's unacceptable is users making posts blatantly sexualizing historical women or women in contemporary hobbies.  This includes expressing any excessive interest of sexual desire or making negative comments about their appearance.  Women don't exist for your amusement.  If anyone posts a comment negatively criticizing the appearance of female historical cosplayers or reenactors, they're getting a long ban.  I'm not going to perpetuate women being driven out of male dominated hobbies because greasy virgins don't find them up to their standards.

The same rule applies to historical women.  I don't understand how any males aren't deeply ashamed of making posts like that.

Guideline on post to thread ratios
Posted by: Tanya - 05-05-2024, 01:32 PM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (2)

July 23rd, 2009

If you're a long-standing respected user, this doesn't apply to you.  This is an observation that I've made about many users who don't contribute to the forum.

Almost all users should have more posts then threads if they're active regularly.  Most users have several times as many posts as threads.

"Violating" this rule (It's not a rule.) isn't going to lead to getting banned, but it's something we check for when deciding whether bans should be considered or if we're on the fence about issuing a warning or how severe it should be.

In most cases your post to thread ratio should be at least 3:1, meaning that you have twice as many posts as threads. 3:1 is effectively a 2:1 ratio because each thread counts as a post. If you have less than a 3:1 post ratio, it's a sign that you're provocative and not contributing to discussions. Many of the long time users on the forum have ratios of 10:1 and some of them are as high as 40:1.

  Ignore flame war bait posts
Posted by: Tanya - 05-02-2024, 04:37 PM - Forum: Rules - No Replies

October 26th, 2007

If you see a thread or post that's designed to generate outrage, ignore it, report it and move on.  If you post in a thread that's seeking a negative reaction, you may be held accountable.  Don't feed the trolls.  If you ignore them, they'll get board and move on.

An indefinite moratorium on sexual violence is now in effect
Posted by: Tanya - 04-17-2024, 03:35 AM - Forum: Announcements - No Replies

February 17th, 2011

I've been giving this thought over the past few weeks and I've discussed it privately online with Vanya.  I don't take this decision lightly.  In relevance to prior issues going back years on the forum and in my private life, I have made the decision to put an indefinite moratorium on all discussions of sexual violence on this forum.

I don't want to end discussion of this tragic subject matter, but considering past flame wars and revisionist concern trolling that happened here, this forum simply is not the place.  I encourage anyone wanting to discuss this subject to go to forums where it is allowed.  This subject is simply makes people too emotional and things get too heated and users have ended up arguing in circles covering the same facts over and over.

I'm also tired of the rape threats from white knights of all people who have said that I deserve to be raped because I wouldn't let them present false information to push an agenda.

I don't want to shut down discussion of such serious events but enough is enough.

  Forum Rules
Posted by: Tanya - 04-16-2024, 12:51 PM - Forum: Rules - No Replies

September 16th, 2005

Maintain civilized discussion:  This means don't be rude, no trolling, and don't get into flame wars.  If another user is being rude, let the moderators deal with it.  If you get into a flame war with them, the thread will be locked and everyone involved will be given warnings.  Flame wars will be dealt with severely.

Stay on the topic of the thread:  It breaks continuity and new users who join the thread will be confused.  Users who post of topic will receive warning points and the threads will be locked.  Replies need to be relevant to the first post or the last post.  All posts must be related to the first post in some way.

Do not make multiple posts in a row:  You will receive a severe warning for it.  (25% warning)  Bans start at 30% of the max warning level.

Posts must contain at least one complete sentence and must not contain abbriviations, leetspeak, or consist only of images or other media.

Making posts in order to "bump" threads is forbidden.  If you have a question or are seeking advice, you can ask a moderator to bump the thread for you.

Check post dates before replying to old threads.  If you have a statement or question that's relevant to the thread, you can post it, but don't revive old threads if you don't have anything important to say.

All users except moderators must use the default text color.  Custom text colors are reserved for moderator use.  Any user who uses a custom text color will receive a warning.  Using moderator designated text colors will be considered impersonation of a moderator.

This should go without saying, but certain BB code is intended for moderators to post notices such as warnings.  Any use of this code outside of official moderator use will be treated as impersonating a moderator and serious warnings will be given out.
