TV shows are unreliable because they usually prioritize views over accuracy. Some might be well researched and presented, but most aren't. Credibility is important to them, but if the viewers keep watching, that's all that matters. They aren't intentionally making things up, but they don't have the best people doing research. One person can spend a day going through low-budget books for information and easily throw together a script for an hour long show.
I'm locking this thread now before it turns into a flame war with the incredibly inflammatory title.
